The Presidential Debate 2024

I watched that first Presidential debate between President Joe Biden and ex-president Donald Trump three nights ago (June 27, 2024). As Biden attempted to answer that first question I went into panic mode. President Biden stumbled, then froze before uttering an incoherent response. I continued to watch the debate and did not feel that Biden did much better as the debate continued. He looked old, sluggish, and not at all like the quick, one-liner Joe of before. And to be truthful, Trump looked energetic and vibrant. He presented well, not like the bullish, aggressive bully I was used to seeing.

However, once I got past the initial shock of Biden’s appearance and listened to the content of his replies (this was after he got his second wind) the replies were pretty much on point and substantive. I did, however, wish he answered some of the more poignant questions more aggressively, but overall his responses were pretty good.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump. even as he tried to refrain from being his true vulgar self, evaded answering the questions, as he is want to do, and pivoted back to his go-to response that – under Biden, the border was broken and millions of illegal immigrants have poured into the country and have been murdering citizens.

After the debate was over the comments and opinions began. It seemed that the debate was on everyone’s mind. Every news outlet, and social media network, i.e., X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook feed were blowing up with viewpoints.

This morning (Sunday, June 30, 2024) I got up and decided to ask ChatGBT  a series of questions about the debate. Following are my questions, and the responses compiled by the AI robot, ChatGBT.

After the recent debate, how are voters thinking about Biden’s mental acuity?

After the recent debate, concerns about President Biden’s mental acuity have been a significant point of discussion among voters. A substantial number of Americans, 63%, express a lack of confidence in Biden’s mental capability to serve as president. This issue is more pronounced compared to concerns about former President Trump’s mental state, which stands at 57% (AOL.com).

The debate highlighted these concerns, especially with Biden making several notable gaffes, such as confusing the names of foreign leaders. These errors have led to renewed scrutiny of his cognitive health (Washington Examiner). While the White House has defended Biden’s capabilities, emphasizing his leadership and experience, the public’s doubts persist (WXXXI.News).

This ongoing discussion about Biden’s mental fitness is likely to continue influencing voter opinions as the election approaches.

What is the average voter opinion on the recent Biden Vs. Trump debate?

The average voter opinion on the Biden-Trump debate reflects a divided electorate, with many expressing dissatisfaction with both candidates. Polls indicate that the presidential race is very close, with Biden and Trump nearly tied among registered voters (Pew Research Center)(Marist Poll).

Regarding their personal traits, voters have mixed feelings about both candidates. Biden is viewed more positively on issues of ethics and respect for democratic institutions, but he struggles with perceptions of his mental and physical fitness for office. Conversely, Trump is viewed more favorably on his mental and physical fitness but less so on his respect for democracy and ethics (Pew Research Center).

When it comes to handling specific issues, Trump is seen as stronger on the economy and immigration, while Biden is perceived as better on preserving democracy and handling abortion (Marist Poll).

Overall, while both candidates have their strengths and weaknesses, the electorate remains deeply divided, with no clear consensus on who would be the better president.

Is there a real chance that president biden could be replaced on the 2024 ticket?

The prospect of President Joe Biden being replaced on the Democratic ticket for the 2024 election is highly unlikely, though it remains a topic of discussion among political analysts and some party members.

Several key factors contribute to this situation:

  1. Deadlines: The Democratic Party faces significant logistical challenges in replacing Biden. Key deadlines, such as those for delegate selection and ballot nominations, make it difficult to change candidates at this late stage without causing major disruptions (Washington Examiner).

  2. Lack of Consensus on a Successor: There’s no clear alternative candidate who has broad support within the party. Vice President Kamala Harris, who would be a natural successor, faces her own challenges with low approval ratings. Other potential candidates like Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and Bernie Sanders also present divisive choices that could fracture party unity (Washington Examiner).

  3. Political and Strategic Considerations: Despite concerns about Biden’s age and approval ratings, his team believes that he still has a viable path to victory, particularly by focusing on issues like abortion rights and economic policies that differentiate him from his likely opponent, Donald Trump. Campaign aides are working to highlight Biden’s achievements and counter Trump’s narrative (Politico).

While some Democrats are nervous about Biden’s chances and have floated the idea of replacing him, the procedural and political hurdles make it an improbable scenario (Politico)(Washington Examiner).

Finally, will voter apathy hand trump a win?

Voter apathy could indeed play a significant role in the 2024 election, potentially benefiting Donald Trump. The electorate is highly polarized, with strong partisanship driving many voters. Trump tends to have stronger support among the more politically disengaged and mistrustful voters, who typically don’t vote in every election, whereas Joe Biden has more support among consistently active voters (Buzzsprout).

This dynamic makes the election outcome particularly unpredictable. If voter turnout is high among typically apathetic groups, it could shift the election in favor of Trump. Conversely, strong turnout among regular voters might benefit Biden (Buzzspout.

And now the facts, nothing but the facts

Fact checking

How many lies did biden say during the 2024 presidential debate?

During the 2024 presidential debate, fact-checkers have identified several inaccuracies in statements made by both candidates. President Joe Biden made claims that were either misleading or lacked context. For example, he boasted about creating a record 15 million new jobs in his first three years, which is technically true but doesn’t account for population growth and other factors. Additionally, Biden’s statements on semiconductor jobs and clean energy investments also included some misleading elements (National Review)(FactCheck.org).

Overall, while Biden did make some inaccurate statements during the debate, the fact-checks suggest that these were generally not outright falsehoods but rather embellishments or misrepresentations. For a more detailed breakdown of specific statements and their veracity, you can refer to the fact-checks by PolitiFact, FactCheck.org, and the National Review (National Review)(PolitiFact)(FactCheck.org).

How many lies did Trump say during the 2024 presidential debate?

During the first presidential debate of 2024, Donald Trump made a significant number of false or misleading statements. Fact-checking organizations such as FactCheck.org and PolitiFact have identified several key areas where Trump’s claims were inaccurate. These include misinformation about election integrity, immigration policies, and economic statistics.

For example, Trump falsely claimed that there was widespread voter fraud in key states, a continuation of his previous unfounded claims about the 2020 election. He also made misleading statements about the state of the U.S. economy and immigration policies, such as exaggerating the impact of illegal immigration and misrepresenting economic data under the Biden administration (FactCheck.org) (PolitiFact).

These fact-checks highlight the importance of critically evaluating statements made during political debates and seeking out reliable sources for verification. For more detailed breakdowns, you can refer to the comprehensive reports from (FactCheck.org)and (PolitiFact).
