On every single issue that makes sense, Mr. McConnell has contradicted his previous positions whenever it has been initiated by Democrats. From gun control to health care. Immigration to women’s right to choose. One of the biggest and scariest back peddling by McConnell has to do with the Supreme Court.
Let me share my paranoia, A SUPREME COURT APPOINTMENT IS FOR LIFE. Another Trump appointment to that bench would be catastrophic for the United States of America, nay, the World.
Let me explain. Most previous presidents, although appointing judges that may have a propensity to their way of thinking, have also tried to balance the court. I mean they did not deliberately try to impose a way of thinking, or of pseudo morality, on the nation by stacking the deck, so to speak. That is why the country functioned, and why arguments were made before the court and people respected those verdicts/opinions. Things did begin to change a little when the court sided with the republicans back when the trending term was (or would have be hashtag) CHAD, as in hanging chad. In that case because of their decision George W. became president when every one else thought Al Gore should have been. Not to long ago the nation was bitterly divided over the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh.
While it is only speculation, the facts are that RBG is 89 and has just gone through her third cancer scare, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States may have to retire within 2020, an election year. If that does happen the Republicans are poised to jump on the opportunity to appoint yet another ultra (ULT Right) conservative to the bench, thus my paranoia.
Back in 2016 when President Obama was in the last year of his glorious (IMHO) two terms (what is commonly referred to as a lame duck) an opening occurred on the Supreme Court. President Obama had nominated Merrick Garland for the Associate Justice position on the United States Supreme Court to succeed justice Antonin Scalia, who had died one month earlier. The Republicans, led by none other than Mitch McConnell objected so fiercely. The Republican Senate leaders declared that because Scalia’s seat had become vacant during an election year, the Senate would not even consider a nomination from the president. Well, it may appear that the situation may repeat itself in the untimely event of RBG’s retirement due to health. This time the situation is reversed. This time there is a Republican president in the White House and already McConnell has stated that they would vote to confirm a Trump nominee. The argument being made is that back when Obama made the nomination of Merrick Garland the house was controlled by the same party giving the Democrats an unfair advantage to “stack” the court with a liberal majority that would change the course of this country for decades to come. the
Today things are the exact same. However it is with a Republican slant. Suddenly that argument seems to no longer be valid. McConnell again pretends to be a MORAL GIANT when in reality he is a mental midget. He boldly and without blinking can tell the American people that the situation is not the same. He can seriously say that appointing yet another conservative judge will not be an unfair advantage to “stack” the court with a Conservative majority that would change the course of this country for decades to come.
The way I see it, one more conservative judge on the Supreme Court during Trump’s rein would put this country on a dangerous path, a path even more ghastly than the one led by Adolph Hitler. Hitler went after the Jews, Trump is going after everyone that is not Aryan. One has to either be totally blind, totally ignorant of totally hateful to not see that Trump and his minions are attempting to reverse the Browning if America. Neo Nazism and White supremacy are on the rise. Trumps stance on the boarder, his Muslim ban his mocking of the handicapped are all indicators of what the Untied States and the World would look like if another Ult Right Judge gets appointed to the US Supreme Court.
We still have a chance to save this country and the world from a monster worst than Hitler, the anti Christ, if you will, from gaining control of POWER. As Teddy Pendergrass used to sing “WAKE UP EVERY BODY NO MORE SLEEPING IN BED, NO MORE BACKWARD THINKING TIME TO THINK AHEAD. THE WORLD HAS CHANGED SO VERY MUCH FROM WHAT IT USED TO BE, THERE IS SO MUCH HATRED, WAR AND POVERTY.”
