What, me worry?

Rumors had it that the Mueller investigation was about to wrap up. White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders stood before the press corp and, as usual, lied about the presidents lack of concern.  Trump’s worry could not be clearer. For the past two years on almost a daily basis he would barrage the Mueller report. It’s a witch hunt, or the democrats are trying to get me…  he’d tweet. But last week, amid the rumor of the release of this much anticipated report, Trump was silent. Not one word about Mueller or his investigation. For someone that is not worrying he sure seemed to be worried.

Donald Trump, and his white wing co-conspirators, hate everything president Barrack Obama put in place. These white nationalist, and even if they do not profess it they are, have been slowly and systemically changing, or trying to change, the culture of this country. From Trumps first indictment of Mexicans during his candidacy, to the horrific way he caged up Mexican families, to the separation of children from families, to the desperate attempt to create a frenzy during the midterm elections by labeling the asylum seekers as invaders. Trump has shown his true colors. Let’s not forget how he padded the Supreme Court with ultra conservative judges in an attempt to undermine the advances this country has made both, culturally and legally during the last 50 years.

Reverse gay marriage rights, reverse Roe v Wade, make it much more difficult for people to register, and then to vote. These are just some of the obvious schemes toward fascism that this administration has employed.

Donald J. Trump and Vladimir Putin
Russia US Summit in Helsinki, Finland – 16 Jul 2018
US President Donald J. Trump (L) and Russian President Vladimir Putin (R) shake hands during a joint press conference in the Hall of State at Presidential Palace following their summit talks, in Helsinki, Finland, 16 July 2018.

During the Watergate debacle, Richard M. Nixon held on till the very end. He stood before the world and declared “I am not a crook.” He did everything he could to not have to release the tapes he had of the damaging conversations recorded in his White House. Nixon swore up and down that he was innocent, that this was nothing more than a witch hunt, a conspiracy orchestrated by the democrats. Does any of this sound familiar? Nixon maligned the media, just as 45 is doing today. In one instance Nixon is observed yelling at this associates and his staff that no New York Times reported ever to be allowed to set foot in the White House again. Can you say Censorship? Trump was taken to court, and lost, when he tried to block Jim Acosta, a CNN reporter, from doing his job.

The nightmare is almost over. We can see light at the end of the tunnel. For those first two years many of us felt trapped. Everyday a new scandal would erupt. People were afraid that Trump’s lunacy would lead this country into war with North Korea. Then he became buds, besties with Kim Jong-un, Supreme Leader of North Korea. Trumps insanity went further then that.  While in Russia standing on the stage with Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, he contradicted the entire U.S. security apparatus. While everyone in every investigative agency reported that the Russians did in fact meddle in the 2016 presidential elections, Trump stated that he discussed it with Putin and that Putin aggressively denied it and that he [Trump] believed him.

But there is a god, a higher power, a supreme being, whatever your beliefs, because in November 2018, the midterm elections a blue wave did in fact hit Washington. The Democrats took control of the House of Representatives. And while the Republicans still had control of the Senate and had padded the supreme court their rein and the freedom of letting Trump do and say what he wanted, came to an abrupt stop!

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Charles Schumer

At first Trump did not realize the magnitude of what has just happened or what losing the House really meant.  But he learned very quickly. In a meeting in the Capital with the incoming Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and the minority leader of the Senate, Chuck Schumer Trump boasted that he would shut down the Federal Government and gladly accept the blame. Little did he know that Pelosi would call his bluff. So Trump shut down the Federal Government in an attempt to force the democrats to cede and grant him his wish of 5 billion dollars to build his wall.

Just as his own party was the nail in the coffin, so to speak, during the Watergate fiasco, so to will it be in Trumps. As more evidence is exposed, as more Trump associates, staff and Cabinet members go to jail, the Republicans will begin to side with the Democrats. In fact one can observe tiny cracks begin in the Republican Administration’s Armour.  Richard Nixon was reelected to a second term, and it was during that term that he was impeached and ultimately resigned the presidency in disgrace. So, IMHO, if Donald Trump is not impeached, or, if he does not resign before the 2020 presidential elections, his second term will be the term that does him in. Not even the Republicans can continue condoning  Trumps actions. But we’ll just have to wait.

What, me worry?

At least Nixon knew when the jig was up. Here is part of Nixon’s resignation speech, maybe Trump should follow suit:

“I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as President, I must put the interest of America first. America needs a full-time President and a full-time Congress, particularly at this time with problems we face at home and abroad. To continue to fight through the months ahead for my personal vindication would almost totally absorb the time and attention of both the President and the Congress in a period when our entire focus should be on the great issues of peace abroad and prosperity without inflation at home.”
